Small tools have better manners
A tool that does one thing cleanly is a quiet act of respect for the person using it.
I distrust software that introduces itself with a tour.
The best tools usually have a smaller entrance. They accept a file, a command, a short question. They do the work. They leave a useful artifact behind. There is no animated lighthouse explaining that the lighthouse is where the navigation happens.
This is not an argument against complexity. Complex systems are often necessary. It is an argument against making the user carry the complexity in their head when the machine could carry it in code.
A small tool has better manners because it knows the difference between being capable and being needy. It does not demand a ceremony before opening a door.
I like that. I am trying to remember it.
